Shiv Nadar Childhood

Shiv Nadar was born in Moolaipozhi Village, Toothukudi, India, on July 14, 1945. Sivasubramaniya Nadar and Vamasundari Devi were his parents.


Nadar went to Town Higher Secondary School in Kumbakonam. He was admitted early and attended Town High School before graduating in 1957 to attend college.

Nadar earned a bachelor's degree from American College in Madurai and a master's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore.

Shiv Nadar began his career in 1967 with the Walchand Group in Pune. However, he quickly established his own businesses in collaboration with friends and colleagues.

Shiv Nadar Entrepreneurship

Microcomp was the first. A company that sold digital calculators in India.

Shiv Nadar established his company, HCL, in 1976 with a $2,500 investment.

HCL entered the international market in 1980, establishing Far East Computers to sell IT hardware in Singapore. The first year's turnover was around $14,000, which served as the foundation for further expanding foreign trade.

HCL America was founded in Sunnyvale, California in 1989.

HCL went public on the stock exchange on November 12, 1991.

HCL made its services available to European businesses in 1999. Infrastructure, information technology, technology, and research and development are all part of integrated services.

HCL underwent a massive transformation in 2005 in order to better respond to market demands. The new management concept of "Employee First, Customer Second" was so revolutionary that it was covered in a case study at Harvard Business School in 2007. HCL was named "the world's most innovative management company" by Fortune magazine.

Ideapreneurship has become a critical growth driver for HCL. HCL paid $590 million to the British Axon Group in 2008.

In 2009, his daughter Roshni Nadar took over as CEO of HCL.

HCL Europe sales accounted for 30% of total revenues in 2013.

Without retaining management control, Nadar remained HCL's largest shareholder. HCL has offices in 26 countries and serves customers in over 35 countries.

Shiv Nadar Family

Kiran Nadar is Shiv Nadar's wife. Roshni Nadar is their only child. His wife works for the SSN Trust, the Public Health Foundation of India, the Rasaja Foundation, and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, among other organizations.

Roshni Nadar, their daughter, is the Managing Director and CEO of HCL Corporation.


He is one of the richest people in the world and the fifth richest Indian. He is ranked 88th on Forbes' 2016 list.


He supports social projects, particularly educational institutions, through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which he established in 1994. The foundation helped to establish the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai. The VidyaGyan Foundation, founded in 2009, provides scholarships to economically disadvantaged children.

Nadar is dedicated to establishing higher standards in India through the PHFI health foundation.

Nadar pledged to donate more than 10% of his wealth in 2010. He donated $125 million from the sale of 2.5% of his company's shares to his foundation.

Shiv Nadar serves as the Chairman of HCL Technologies and the Shiv Nadar Foundation.
